Rather than opting for a lazy day in the Northwest sun, downtown business owner Anne Smith followed her heart to work on Labor Day. She opened the doors to her clothing store and let passersby know via sandwich board that all proceeds from sales would go to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Smith, owner of Upstage Boutique and Men’s Store on Commercial Avenue, noted she has family in Baton Rouge, which is about 70 miles from New Orleans. On Friday and Saturday Anne earmarked 10 percent of sales receipts for disaster relief. She said those receipts, plus Labor Day sales, totalled about $1,000, which will be sent to a church in Baton Rouge.
