YD draws support

A featured element of Saturday night’s Youth Dynamics ministry event was entertainment by members of a local improv comedy group. As more than 250 dessert banquet guests watched on, three comedians and an unsuspecting young “inductee” sang an impromptu tribute to youth leader Chantel Pemberton, wife of Anacortes YD Director Joel Pemberton. Members of the comic quartet include (r. to l.) Martin Iverson, Brian Geer, a member of the AHS Jazz Choir and Craig Clark. YD, established in Anacortes 36 years ago, states as its mission: “To invite and challenge youth to a lifelong journey in relationship with Christ and His church.” The non-denominational organization encourages young people to grow in faith through worship, study and fellowship in the church of their choice. See “Youth Dynamics” in Activities section for more photos and information.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
