Farewell event

Friends gathered Tuesday evening for a farewell party in honor of Salvation Army Captain Mike Paugh and his wife, Major Beth Paugh. The Paughs have served as officers at the Anacortes Corps for the past six years and as noted by numerous guests, they will be missed. Those in attendance included Salvation Army Advisory Board Chairman Maggie Thompson (center), who presented the Paughs with a photograph of fog rolling over Deception Pass. Others included Mayor Dean Maxwell, Police Chief Mike King and County Commissioner Don Munks. Among long-time Advisory Board members were Ed Norton, Darlene Bergeson and Ginger Houston. The Paughs will take new assignments at the Salvation Army Cadet College in southern California.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
