This crew from Summit Park Volunteer Fire Department was among dozens of participants last week in an emergency response drill hosted by Shell Puget Sound Refinery. The Shell drill included members of the Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) organization, which includes both March’s Point refineries. Also among participating organizations were the Anacortes Fire Department, Tesoro Refinery, Hope Island Fire Department, Skagit County Emergency Services Department and Mt. Erie Fire Department. The exercise is built around emergency scenarios, with response that includes formation of a team, contact with area agencies (such as hospital, law enforcement) and drills in the field with deployment of crews and equipment.
