Tree auction for charity

Visit the Port of Anacortes warehouse at 1st and Commercial today (Friday, Nov. 30) between 10 a.m.and 7 p.m. for a free viewing of the 2007 “Celebration of Trees: The Magic of Christmas.” The event is sponsored by Island Hospital Foundation and the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce. In addition to 13 beautifully decorated trees, the event features painted cutout figures lent by Dorothy Ives, widow of actor/singer Burl Ives. Accompanying the display of decorations will be music by Burl Ives. Pictured here are three of the trees donated by more than a dozen local businesses. The trees will be auctioned Saturday evening.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
