Festival prep

Tuesday’s winds might be more suited for a regatta, but there are billowy clouds and patches of blue as preparations continue for the 2009 PassageMaker TrawlerFest at Cap Sante Boat Haven. Festival crews, contractors and Port of Anacortes staff are working diligently to post signs, erect “big top” tents and manage the influx of hundreds of boats for this event, taking place in Anacortes for the second consecutive year. The Festival is scheduled May 5-9, with peak activity over the weekend. See www.passagemaker.com for details. In addition to the Port, local businesses and the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce have geared up to greet boat owners and guests.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
