Author’s homecoming
Author Jane Berentson celebrated a homecoming of sorts Monday night, presiding at a standing room only “Meet the Author” event at the Burlington Public Library. Jane, a 2000 graduate of Burlington-Edison High School, was published in May. Her book, “Miss Harper Can Do It,” is the story of a schoolteacher from Tacoma adjusting to the absence of her boyfriend, who has been deployed to the Middle East. The book was published in May, and Jane, a middle school teacher who makes her home in New York, has been busy “on the circuit” since. Book reviewer Gail Cooke wrote in part: “First time novelist Jane Berentson has created a very likable character in Annie Harper. She’s someone with whom we can laugh, shed a tear, and identify. Sometimes her struggles and questions are ours. What Annie had thought would be a tedious, slow year holds many surprises for her as she struggles to identify her feelings about life, war, and love.” Jane is the daughter of Dan and Susan Berentson. She is already working on her second novel. Following a reading and Q&A session by the author, Burlington librarian Janice Burwash (in photo with Jane) said, “There is a reason readers find Miss Harper so likable … Jane is a very charming young woman.” See Amazon.com to make your purchase of “Miss Harper Can Do It.”
