Drew Bledsoe in Anacortes

Former NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe visited Compass Wines in downtown Anacortes Wednesday, drawing a crowd that included “old Cougs” and wine connoisseurs alike. Bledsoe, who ranks among top WSU Cougar quarterbacks, is now owner of the Doubleback Winery. Doubleback is a new ultra-premium red wine established by former NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe. The name and brand were developed by Kendall Ross of Seattle. He is pictured here with old Coug frat buddies Bud Anderson and John White; Jackie Anderson and Bev White. In addition to wine and cheeses (from the renowned WSU Creamery), the event served as a fundraiser for the Tommy Thompson Trail trestle rebuild and the WSU Northwest Washington Research Center in Mount Vernon. Also visiting the Skagit Valley this day was WSU President Elson Floyd, who gathered with guests at Skagit Valley College.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
