Final weekend for “Laramie Project”

Saturday night (November 19) is the last opportunity to enjoy the talents of more than a dozen student performers in the stage play “Laramie Project: Ten Years Later” at Brodniak Auditorium, Anacortes High School. Admission is by donation at the door, 7:30 p.m. curtain. This drama tells the story of life in a small Wyoming community in the wake of the murder of a gay college student. Due to the serious nature of the subject, the production is rated PG-13. Pictured here is one of two “walls” of wooden chairs posted on either side of the stage. Performers enter at the start of the play, each removing a chair from which they move back and forth as they represent dozens of characters portrayed following interviews by members of the Tectonic Theatre Company. Playwrights are Moises Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski, Greg Pierotti, Andy Paris and Stephen Belber.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
