Medical Arts Pavilion opens at hospital

Monday, January 9, marked the opening of Island Hospital’s new Medical Arts Pavilion (MAP). This photograph was taken at the top of the stairs, just inside the 26th Street entrance to the Merle Cancer Care Center. The public is invited to an open-house celebration on Tuesday, January 24, at 1015 25th Street. The event starts with a ribbon-cutting at 5:15 p.m. with doors opening 5:30 p.m. The open house features food, refreshments and tours with respective professional staff on hand to answer questions of those in attendance. The 26,000 sq. ft. MAP is located on the east side of the Island Hospital campus and houses the new Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center as well as expanded Merle Cancer Care Center and Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy center. About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
