Gallery features Dick Garvey photographs

Lovers of large format film photography will gather this evening (Friday, March 2) for the opening reception of a month-long Dick Garvey “retrospective” at Scott Milo Gallery, 420 Commercial Avenue (6-9 p.m.). Pictured here displaying one of Dick’s books (A Western Waltz) is gallery owner Katherine Khile, who worked with Dick for a number of years before his death in 2011. Khile collaborated with Dick’s wife, Candy, to put together a collection of his works … “some on paper, some with narratives,” in addition to work printed on canvas. Tonight’s event is held in conjunction with the community-wide Friday Art Walk. Dick’s work will be on display at the gallery through April 3. The Gallery is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Call 293-6938 or visit www.scottmilo.com.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
