A community worthy of its own magazine

I had the privilege of collaborating with the talented How It Works/Anacortes.net team as they painstakingly assembled the first issue of Anacortes Magazine, a publication focused on the creative character of this island community. This free magazine will feature several local artists including musician Jacob Navarro, stone carver Tracy Powell, photographer Karla Locke … and me, in my capacity as “editor” of AnacortesToday.com. Area photographers will have the opportunity to enter a photo contest for the next issue of the magazine. Anacortes Magazine will be available in print and online, thanks to Chris Terrell and others including Kenneth Davenport and Keith Eyer.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
