Festival rocks with race

Winner of this year’s Quick and Dirty Boat competition was the team from Fiberglass Supply, pictured here on the left. Strandberg Construction’s team. with their “Deadliest Catch” knockoff boat, crossed the finish line just ahead of Fiberglass Supply, but early start issues cost them the trophy. Of the three boats pictured here in a near miss, only two finished. The Bob’s Chowder team (right) went under shortly after reaching the halfway point of the “race.” Day Two of the Anacortes Waterfront unfolds Sunday, June 3 at Cap Sante Boat Haven in downtown Anacortes. Free. Family friendly. Chamber sponsored fun with a maritime spin.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
