Salvation Army Christmas report
Once again this year the community of Anacortes responded generously to the Salvation Army’s Christmas kettle campaign and efforts to make the holiday brighter for families in need. Salvation Army Anacortes Corps officers Josh and Ryan Boyd report this week that the Red Kettle Campaign brought in about $38,600. With a mix of paid bell ringers and volunteers, much of that total will be applied toward social service operations in 2013. Additionally, the annual campaign to provide food and gifts to families in need drew strong support. There were seven Adopt a Family trees at various businesses in town, resulting in delivery of food baskets and gifts for 28 families. “Adopted” families receive the personal attention of businesses, churches and the like who choose to consider the specific requests of a family. In total, 123 local families received holiday food boxes and gifts for children 17 and under. In total, the Christmas campaign served 188 adults, 44 teens and 185 adults.
