Eyes on business

Anacortes was well represented Thursday at the annual Economic Forecast event hosted by the Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC). Among those in an audience of about 500 were Mayor Pro Tem Erica Pickett and City Councilmember Brad Adams. Port of Anacortes representatives included commissioners Bill Short, Pat Moody, Bob Eberle and Keith Rubin. Port executive Bob Hyde was also in attendance with numerous staff members. Hyde will serve as EDASC board president this year. There were many Anacortes business people, including Tom Rizzo, Mike Nelson, Marc Estvold, Shane and Jennifer Aggergaard, Laurie Gere, Ted and Mary Anstensen, Pat Barrett and Mary Staley. One of the speakers was Steve Winter, CEO of Tethys Enterprises, a company seeking to build a state-of-the-art bottling plant on Fidalgo Island. The forecast dinner was held in Mount Vernon.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
