Come to the festival!

Crews were hard at work early Friday morning in preparation for the 2013 Anacortes Waterfront Festival, one of the most exciting, family friendly festivals in the Northwest! Chamber crewmates included Stephanie, Mary and Cecilie, who assumes lead role for this “star” among many Chamber events. Children, fear not: the Rotary crew is also on hand, putting together the always-popular “build your own boat” booth, complete with sailing pool! Tonight is the annual kickoff dinner at the Port Event Center, and then we’re in for two great days of Waterfront Festival, Anacortes style. Come on down to Cap Sante Marina. It’s free!

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
