Benefit for Eric Neufeld

A Saturday, August 3 benefit music concert will be held at Anacortes First Baptist Church for local barber/musician Eric Neufeld, who is battling cancer. The free “Conquering Cancer Concert” will be held at 6 p.m., featuring members of “The Rocket Band” and other friends of Eric’s. Donations at the concert will go toward the Neufeld Family Hope Fund, established to help defray the costs of cancer treatment. If you cannot attend the concert but would like to support the Neufeld family, donations can be made at any branch of Whidbey Island Bank. Anacortes First Baptist is located at 2717 “J” Avenue.

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
