One week ago the community of Anacortes came alive with boaters and fishermen. Hundreds came to town for the Anacortes Salmon Derby, sponsored by the Fidalgo-San Juan Island Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers. Others took part in the annual Tulip Regatta sponsored by the Anacortes Yacht Club. Early Sunday afternoon I returned to Cap Sante Marina from fishing in the San Juans. On Fidalgo Bay I encountered regatta competitors, one of which was the “Wild Rumpus,” owned by Andy and Stephanie Schwenk. It was a wild, windy weekend for sailing. As it turns out, this boat finished first in the 73 Fleet. A Whidbey friend, Jason Joiner, finished third in his division with “Mayhem.” Congratulations to all who braved the weather for a great Northwest adventure!
