Chamber trains partners

A campaign that has been months in the making transitions to action this week with training led by branding expert Duane Knapp (right). A Chamber of Commerce sponsored training session at the Majestic Inn & Spa Wednesday marked the first of a series of such sessions that will take place over the course of the next year or so. It was billed as a “Delivering the Experience Anacortes Promise” session. Elements of “the promise” include 1) beautiful island getaway 2) authentic, vibrant seacoast community 3) wonderful weather 4) real people 5) everyone is welcomed as a guest. The next session is scheduled on February 24, with hopes to conduct sessions that will directly train 1,000 individuals. Among those present at the first session were volunteer members of a Brand Team that worked with veteran consultant Knapp to create a purposeful campaign to put Anacortes on the map as a top Northwest destination. The team’s work included almost 2,000 interviews and surveys with residents, business owners, guests and the traveling public. Call the Chamber (293-7911) for details or inquiries about training.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
