Headed for the county fair

Who says Anacortes can’t go a little bit country? Nine-year-old Christopher Lindor of Anacortes (center) is headed for the Skagit County Fair August 10 with his chicken “Danica,” named after the race car driver. Pictured with Christopher are his chicken partner Dominic (with “Camber”) and mother Amy, who will volunteer as superintendent in the Home Economics division of the Fair. Sister Megan will also compete at the Fair with her bunny “Poppy.” Mark your calendars today! The Skagit County Fair takes place at the fairgrounds in south Mount Vernon from Wednesday, August 10 through Saturday, August 13.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
