Arts at the Port

A free Anacortes Arts Festival kickoff event will be held at the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed and Event Center Saturday, July 30, at 6 p.m. The exhibit will then be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., August 1-4 and from 5-7 p.m. during Festival days (August 5-7). This juried exhibition opening includes no-host wine, nibbles, music and an opportunity to meet the artists, selected by Juror Barbara Shaiman. It includes almost 100 pieces of both 2D & 3D work by regional and national artists. Works include paintings, photographs, sculpture, fiber, glass, wood, mixed media and video. The delicate art piece pictured here was created by Mary Coss of Seattle.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
