Alley Cat & Marine Supply

It’s official. With the snip of the golden scissors, Anacortes Chamber of Commerce welcomed Alley Cat Antiques to its new location on the 200 Block of Commercial Avenue. Pictured here are owners Roy and Lea Mayberry along with Mayor Laurie Gere, Chamber executive Stephanie Hamilton and an enthusiastic audience. After the first ribbon was snipped, the group moved a few yards north for a second ribbon cutting at the entrance of Marine Supply & Hardware, an iconic Anacortes business also owned and operated by the Mayberrys. Among other dignitaries at the Wednesday afternoon event were Port Commissioners Bill Short, Keith Rubin and Joe Verdoes, plus Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County (EDASC) CEO John Sternlicht. Get on down and check out these shops!

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
