Teen serves others from wheelchair

Young Christopher Lindor personifies the Salvation Army mission of service to others in the name of Jesus. Today the 13-year-old volunteer was ringing the bell at Safeway, collecting donations for the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign. Christopher, the second oldest boy in a family of eight children, is a wheelchair user and has a feeding tube and ventilator. Although he had two brain surgeries last summer and fall, almost nothing keeps this 7th grader from doing the things he loves and being part of his community. He was a loyal administrative services volunteer at the Salvation Army during summer vacation. For more information about volunteer bell ringing opportunities, call the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps at 293-6682.

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
