Curtain rises soon on high school theatre

Construction crews will work through the weekend and into next as they put the finishing touches on several Anacortes High School project elements including Brodniak Theatre. The theatre, located adjacent to Williams Gym, opened in 1976. This renovation is the most dramatic of several updates since then, with elements including new sound, lights, curtains, flooring and seating. Audience seating is now configured in three sections instead of four, with added space between rows (leg room). Net capacity is 713 occupants, a reduction from the previous seating capacity of 806. Students will have limited access to the stage and associated spaces, just in time for tryouts for the spring musical. More photos “In the News.”

About Photographer Steve Berentson

A fourth generation Skagit County native who was moved kicking and screaming from this island community in 1960. I finally reclaimed an Anacortes address in 1980, and I have been in constant celebration of my return since that time. Many of us who call Anacortes home love Fidalgo Island for its natural assets: among them are rugged beaches, pristine lakes, thousands of acres of forestland and some awesome views of the Skagit Valley and surrounding islands. Another element of my love affair with this community is its people, both natives and immigrants. They will “star” in many of my journal entries.
