Chumming it up on a Guemes Channel shoreline at low tide are an American Wigeon and a Black Oystercatcher. Both handsome (and hungry) birds.
I love this duck. The American wigeon, beautifully colored and quite social. They love to forage on the shoreline. I look forward to seeing/hearing them over the coming months.

Tomorrow, December 21, is the first day of winter. I celebrated “Winter’s Eve” with a rain-free walk at the Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve (SHIP).
