Among Anacortes High School graduates receiving diplomas in June 2012 were these three students, also named as recipients of the William “Bill” H. Taylor Award for leadership in athletics. Tom Thompson (left) was part of the selection committee that chose to honor (l. to r.) Alex Miller, Catherine Miles and Amanda Bessler with scholarships. The […]
It was the Spring of 2011 when my assignment took me to Anacortes High School for photographs of the choir. Year in, year out, always some great talent among high school musicians.
Wow! It doesn’t get any better. Anacortes High School football team claims first-ever state 2A Championship at Husky Stadium with an incredible 60-30 win over previously unbeaten Tumwater. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the Anacortes High School boys basketball team! With an 18-2 record they earned No. 1 bragging rights in the NW Conference League. Tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 14) they play a post-season game against Lakewood: 7:15 at Mount Vernon High School. AHS girls won Monday night at home against CedarCrest. The girls now face Sehome […]
Seahawks boys basketball fills the house. It is always an exciting, sentimental journey to attend a high school sporting event, but Wednesday night with top-of-the league opponents Anacortes and Lynden, it was particularly rewarding. Coach Brett Senff and a talented squad of players came into the game with only one loss, but at the final […]
It was the 2005-06 school year when Anacortes High School students in Victor Garcia’s Marine Science class worked with Anacortes artist Mike Stark to create 13 panels for the Dunes Interpretive Trail at Deception Pass State Park. The panels still serve today to enlighten trail walkers regarding the beach/dunes/forest/lake ecosystem.
I don’t recall details, but I had to share these images from a music presentation at Brodniak Auditorium and February 2009. I was doing an article for the Anacortes School District “Currents” newsletter, but I couldn’t put my hands on the article for details. Beautiful clothing, instruments … and music!
An aerial photograph of Anacortes from May 2006. The most obvious change since then is the new high school and sports stadium.
What a joy it was to see student athletes on the field, the “Seahawks” flag flying beside the Stars and Stripes of the U.S. flag. Last week during a track and field competition.
What a great afternoon Thursday at the Anacortes High School track, where AHS hosted a track and field competition including athletes from Burlington-Edison and Blaine. A joy to see these young people demonstrating their talents, celebrating the opportunity to compete against others. Kudos to athletes, coaches and volunteer staff!
It is Veterans Day 2020, with many communities around the nation restricted as to public gatherings and events acknowledging this holiday. Thanks to all who have served in this nation’s military! (This photo was taken at Anacortes High School Veterans Memorial Plaza)
