On a beautiful May day in 2012 I drove to Cap Sante to take photographs of a sailboat race below on Fidalgo Bay. Among competitors were the “Emoyeni” of Whidbey Island and “Pangaea” of Anacortes.
Fidalgo Island sculptor Tracy Powell has created many high profile pieces, primary of which is the “Maiden of Deception Pass” story pole at Rosario Beach. Washington State Ferries (WSF) announces that the Anacortes/San Juan Islands ferry route will return to a four-boat weekday and three-boat weekend regular winter schedule starting Sunday, April 26. The route has been on reduced service since April 10 with the Samish out of service for rudder repairs.

Before it was part of the Tommy Thompson Trail, this trestle served to bring trains to and from Anacortes across Fidalgo Bay. This photo was taken in February 2005 as the trestle was transitioned to its current use by the City of Anacortes.

An outside planter at Anthony’s Restaurant in downtown Anacortes provides a splash of color along the esplanade at Cap Sante Marina. Prominent in the display are tulips and daffodils.
