If you don’t mind the cold temperatures, winter months can be among the best of the year for Northwest “portraits” like this one, taken Saturday morning from Cap Sante. A lone sailboat moved across the frigid waters of Fidalgo Bay, circling back at one point after I had assumed the skipper was headed toward the […]
Mt. Baker boasts a recent powdering of snow, as evidenced in this view from across the bay looking toward the Tommy Thompson Trail. Visible on the hillside of March Point are Tesoro refinery storage tanks.
A blue heron stands on the western shoreline of Padilla Bay, Mt. Baker looming in the background.
While the recreational vessel in the foreground headed back for Cap Sante Boat Haven, the working boat moved east. A day on the water for both. Different “missions,” both traditionally Northwest.
Yikes. August 1 and time for the Anacortes Arts Festival already! Like this boat on Fidalgo Bay, we are speeding to the end of summer. My devious plan is to do what I can to slow the pace a bit, to incline my face to to sun a bit more often in the coming weeks. […]
Today’s photograph is uploaded from my laptop computer, where I have stored some of my favorite Fidalgo Bay photographs from a recent Anacortes Yacht Club sailing event. Mt. Baker’s been in and out of cloud cover in recent days, but the mountain was shining on this Wednesday evening.
Work begins at Dakota Creek Shipyard on what I believe is the bow section of a boat. Welders work in conjunction with heavy equipment operators as steel sections are cut, positioned and welded into place. Not a bad place to work on a sunny day, given the view and all…
An email from Matt Bepler sent Brian and me scrambling to Cap Sante Thursday afternoon on the Great Full Moon Rising adventure. We weren’t the only folks at the viewpoint to watch in awe as the moon rose quickly over the mountains. It was cold, but enjoyable. Thanks, Matt, for the tip…
A stop at the Salvation Army on “R” Avenue Thursday included the opportunity to photograph Mt. Baker at sunset. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it was only 4:00 p.m. I must say I have a harder time filling my evenings when it’s dark before the end of the work day. Didn’t […]
I realize it’s a matter of perspective, but to me this is the back of Mt. Baker. I took this photograph Sunday evening during a visit to Lynden, our “Dutch neighbor” in Whatcom County.
After a string of days without a Mt. Baker sighting, the peak peeked out again Monday with a cap of fresh-fallen snow. This photograph was taken from Cap Sante looking east, with refinery-bound tankers in the foreground.
I captured this image of a crew working on an “M” Avenue power line (right) while I was visiting the school district office at Anacortes Middle School on Thursday. Mt. Baker was obscured by a cloud, but this is a nice view of Fidalgo Bay. On the left is the steeple at Anacortes Lutheran Church.
