Prominent during this morning’s “wildlife on parade” adventure at Ship Harbor were the bunnies. They included skittish bunnies on the edge of cover, some literally crossing paths with me, one taking a bath in the sand and one tiny bunny nibbling on tender grass from the edge of a beach log. Oh, and then there […]
Always a great idea to start the day in one of this community’s natural areas. Today, Ship Harbor, beach and wetlands. I was pleased to encounter a couple of new feathered friends.
Fishermen are out. On a visit to Deception Pass Park I viewed folks fishing from North Beach, boat just offshore, and bluff from the base of Pass Island. Traveling in and out of the park I saw many folks fishing lakes including Cranberry, Heart, Campbell and Pass.
What a wonderful morning is was! Given the governor’s lifting of state park closures due to COVID-19, I grabbed my camera and made my way to Rosario Beach. My trip featured opportunities to photograpph blooming plants as well as shorebirds, geese, rabbits and quail. The views from Rosario Head were stunning, and confirmed that boaters, […]
An encounter with two immature eagles on a Fidalgo Island beach prompted me to put together this small collection of images in black and white. Grateful to spend a few minutes in their world.
Rather than subjecting myself to more news about the coronavirus pandemic I chose today to visit Deception Pass State Park. Fresh air, natural beauty and safe space between me and those who chose the same outdoor adventure. Not escape, but a welcome respite.
What an amazing afternoon at Rosario Beach, the Fidalgo side of Deception Pass State Park. The powerful combination of wind and sea are always impressive.
Recently added at the beautiful Ship Harbor Interpretive Preserve in west Anacortes were a number of interpretive signs including “snapshots” of local flora and fauna. Visitors are greeted by a large sign featuring a hovering osprey and a snapshot history: “Stepping into the Story of Ship Harbor.” Acknowledgments are made to organizations including the Port […]
Visible in this photo are Fidalgo Island features including Similk Beach, Mt. Erie and Lake Campbell.
Take one beach, add boy and rocks, and you’ll soon find that boy engaged in the great adventure of skipping stones. That was the case Saturday when I visited Seafarers’ Memorial Park in downtown Anacortes. What a great place to be on a sunny summer day!
These flowers are blooming just a few yards from the Guemes Channel shoreline near the Puget Sound Rope factory in Anacortes. Enjoy the sun while it lasts!
This was the scene Monday afternoon at the beach at Seafarers’ Memorial Park, located next door to Cap Sante Boat Haven. Just underway is Phase Three of the cleanup of a former Scott Paper mill site on the shore of Fidalgo Bay. Port of Anacortes officials plan a May re-opening of the public facility.
