Muralist Bill Mitchell’s “Popeye” art was mounted on a wall inside the Port Transit Shed, but he used Popeye’s pipe as a prop during outdoor pirate activities at the Work Boat Races. Mitchell presided over pirate “swagger and stagger” competition. See photos in Activities section.

I don’t know the particulars about this Bill Mitchell mural, but I know it is appropriate for this time of year. This snow-shoveling character adorns the north wall of the Gere-a-Deli Restaurant on Commercial Avenue. The building once served the community as a bank.

Outgoing Chamber of Commerce President Pam Allen made things official Thursday night, passing off the ceremonial gavel to 2006 President Bill Berry. A celebration of 2005 accomplishments, as well as a peek ahead to 2006 goals, took place at Tesoro Refinery on March’s Point.
