Weekend warrior

The Lady Washington, a tall ship replica out of Grays Harbor, visits Anacortes with sister ship Hawaiian Chieftain Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10. The vessels will operate out of Cap Sante Boat Haven, offering dockside tours as well as paid trips for “battles” on the bay. The Lady was here just a week […]

Balloons a la Brian

No, you didn’t miss a local balloon event. This incredible photo of several dozen hot air balloons came to me via email, compliments of son-in-law Brian in Albuquerque. While we’re struggling with windstorms, the sun is shining in New Mexico, as you can see from this early morning scene at the city’s annual Hot Air […]

Jazz concert

The Brian Kirk Quintet entertained a Friday afternoon audience gathered at historic Causland Park. Kirk, pictured here, was joined by Steve Alboucq (trumpet); Jon Hamar (bass); Brian Kent (sax) and Chris Morton (piano). What a wonderful start to Labor Day Weekend, and the performance was free, courtesy of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and local […]

Grad dad

We were out of the country Saturday, traveling to Abbottsford, B.C. on the occasion of son-in-law Brian’s graduation from Trinity Western University. Pictured here are Brian, Kirsten and Hallie, born just five weeks ago. Despite the challenges of a new baby during the closing weeks of his undergraduate work, Brian graduated with “Great Distinction.” Four […]

Baby Hallie

Daughter Kirsten and husband Brian welcomed little Hallie into the world Saturday, March 24, 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham. Brian went into “father mode” immediately, even taking the opportunity to be involved in baby’s first bath. I know from experience that children – and grandchildren – are among God’s greatest blessings. We […]

Sidney adventure

Kirsten and Brian paused for a photo in the Anacortes terminal of the Washington State Ferries system just before taking off on a British Columbian adventure. The newlyweds were bound for Anacortes’ Sister City Sidney, then for Victoria, doing the cost-effective “walk-on” thing. They posed in front of a children’s display set up by engine […]

Mountaintop view

I didn’t lose a daughter … I gained a son who counts photography among his many talents. Brian took this photo of Mt. Rainier during a pre-wedding hike in the North Cascades. Given his gracious permission to do so, I’ve entered several more of his photos under “Cascades climb” in the Activities section.
