Family outing

As is often the case in the summer months, Cap Sante was a wonderful place to be Saturday afternoon. This family and several other people sat on the east side of Cap Sante to watch boating activity in the beautiful blue waters below. Largest among the vessels was the “Polar,” an oil tanker inching its […]

Fidalgo Bay

Standing as reminders of days gone by are several dozen steel posts embedded in the rocks at Cap Sante. Visible in the background is Fidalgo Bay, with the gently sweeping slope of the city behind. Anacortes Marina appears in the upper left hand corner.

View from the top

There’s a reason local folks send visiting out-of-towners to Cap Sante. This is a Sunday morning view to the west, toward Cap Sante Boat Haven. Visible to the top right is the New Wilson Hotel (red brick), tentatively scheduled for renovation in the near future. Pictured at the base of the photo is the gazebo […]

Foggy morning

It was all about fog this morning, especially near Fidalgo Island shorelines. This photograph was taken in the North Basin at Cap Sante Marina, looking northeast. The phrase “It’ll burn off” comes to mind as I recall the days of my youth. And by the way, it did. It was a beautiful afternoon.

A winter’s day

It was a crisp, clear afternoon Monday at Cap Sante Marina when I took this photo of the Strait Arrow repositioning from the dock to her slip. It is winter days that often yield the best photographs of regional “stars” such as Mt. Baker. At the very least, it’s a great time of year to […]

Pedaling the esplanade

A bicyclist enjoying the relative solitude at Cap Sante Marina’s North Basin stops for mechanical adjustments. This esplanade, or walkway, leads to Rotary Park at the base of Cap Sante, inaccessible to vehicles. Eventually the esplanade will become part of the Tommy Thompson Trail, which will follow the city’s coastline and cross Fidalgo Bay to […]

Sweeping curves

Morning sunlight casts an intricate shadow on the sweeping curves of the deck of sailboat Sophia Christina, moored at Cap Sante Boat Basin.

Busy corner

An island view without the hassle of a ferry. Homeowners on the shores beneath Cap Sante have an awesome view of marine traffic coming to and from Anacortes. At this time of year, with boat owners doing their best to wring more precious time out of the sunshine season, traffic is particularly heavy around Fidalgo […]

Marine scene

I encourage you to get up early one of these mornings and take a walk at Cap Sante Marina. It’s an awesome public asset (Port of Anacortes) teeming with beautiful boats and some wonderful people. In this photo, morning light casts shadows over the hull of the sailboat “Endeavor.”

Huck and Tom

Take two boys, a beautiful summer evening and a town like Anacortes, and you’ve got the makings of the kinds of childhood adventures that inspired American author Mark Twain. These two friends arrived at the Seafarers’ Memorial dock just in time to watch skipper Shane Aggergaard of Island Adventures take the turn around Cap Sante […]

Morning adventure

Weather reports call for sun for the next few days, so set your alarm and get up early to take in some of the wonders Fidalgo Island has to offer. One option is a walk to Rotary Park at the base of Cap Sante. Park your car in the lot near the North Basin laundry/shower […]
