Fidalgo Island, beautiful from any angle. But I will always be grateful for opportunities I have had to see my hometown from the air.

On a beautiful May day in 2012 I drove to Cap Sante to take photographs of a sailboat race below on Fidalgo Bay. Among competitors were the “Emoyeni” of Whidbey Island and “Pangaea” of Anacortes.
It was January 11, 2006 when I made my way to the viewpoint of Cap Sante. I was a bit surprised to discover this young man seated alone on a rock overlooking Fidalgo Bay. Calm, cold, quiet.
I’m not certain, because the subject of this photo disappeared under water just after I hit the shutter, but I’m guessing this is a professional diver doing the kind of underwater work most boat owners cannot do. The pleasure boat was moored at Cap Sante Boat Haven.
A fully exposed Mt. Baker is like a calling card to the city’s popular viewpoint, Cap Sante. There were a dozen or so people gathered Friday afternoon when I arrived with camera in hand. If Friday’s sunshine was nice, the full moon and stars were an even more exciting winter development.
Long winter days can pose a challenge in the area of attitude, but this season also brings many beautiful days and many scenes bathed in light against dark backgrounds. Featured here is the commercial vessel “Showboat” at Cap Sante Boat Haven near the Cannery.
