New cargo ship

Currently taking on a load of petroleum coke from Shell Puget Sound Refinery is the MV Ken Sea, a cargo ship making its maiden voyage. The ship is moored all week at Port of Anacortes Pier II. Pet coke is a fuel refining byproduct used in the production of aluminum.

Federal Progress

Petroleum coke, a byproduct of the gasoline refining process, is loaded on board the Federal Progress, a transport ship homeported in Hong Kong. Shell Puget Sound Refinery contracts with the Port of Anacortes to transport coke across the dock on the Guemes Channel.

Deepwater port activity

Among activities at the Port of Anacortes is the shipping of petroleum coke, a byproduct of the refining business at Shell Puget Sound Refinery. Longshoremen are busy this week unloading trucks from the refinery into this large ship. Approximately 300,000 tons of pet coke are shipped from Pier 2 each year.
