One of my favorite blocks, as viewed from the cupola at the Majestic Inn and Spa. The antique shop is located at the intersection of 3rd and Commercial Avenue, just up the street from the port’s administrative offices.

Rain or shine

No one can accuse these folks, or their peace counterparts across the street, of being fair weather activists. Peace signs, American flags and message placards appeared Sunday on all four corners of Commercial Avenue and 12th Street. Andy Stevens (right) and his compatriots expressed support of military action in the Middle East.

Hole on Commercial

A Strandberg Construction crew spent a couple of days last week demolishing this building at the corner of 25th Street and Commercial Avenue. The cinderblock building last housed a tile shop. Anyone know plans for vacant lot?

Stripe sharpening

While south Commercial Avenue construction work continues, activity on the north end included re-striping of center lines by a city crew. Just in time for Shipwreck Day, the giant garage sale set for Saturday, July 18 in the downtown area.
