3rd and Commercial

One of my favorite blocks, as viewed from the cupola at the Majestic Inn and Spa. The antique shop is located at the intersection of 3rd and Commercial Avenue, just up the street from the port’s administrative offices.

Artistic greeting

Extending a greeting to folks on Commercial Avenue in Anacortes is this interesting trio of figures, part of the city’s public art display. This piece is located at the corner of 32nd and Commercial Avenue. Look for numerous other pieces along the avenue.

Moving horizon

There are times when a glance to the north end of Commercial Avenue gives the sense our downtown is in motion. In fact, that sensation is created when a huge oil tanker departs from one of the refineries on March’s Point. The tankers are BIG, and often riding high as they churn past the dock […]

Rain or shine

No one can accuse these folks, or their peace counterparts across the street, of being fair weather activists. This shot was taken shortly after the 7:30 a.m. event, which featured pastries and fruit from Gere A Deli and coffee from Johnny Picasso’s. The morning Kiwanis group showed up in force […]

Currier at work

I was surprised at 7:30 Tuesday evening to find artist Al Currier with his easel and paints on Commercial Avenue. The local artist said historic Anacortes Marine Supply and Hardware has been on his “to paint” list for quite a while. I didn’t linger because he was working against the clock in terms of light […]
