City namesake

I don’t know the story on this 4th of July parade entry, other than the fact that the sweet lady in the back seat portrayed city namesake Annie Curtis. My favorite entry in a great 2011 parade of winners. Note: discovered sign on side of car which identified vehicle as Diamond T Roadster, built by […]

This sculpture includes a cutout figure of Curtis on the shoreline side. Front images include a sailing ship, waves, octopus, salmon […]

Historic ties

Gaze under the “Historic Downtown Anacortes” arch these days and you will see the image of city namesake Anna Curtis on the side of the historic Wilson Hotel. Look soon for a new Bill Mitchell mural on the Commercial Avenue face of the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Center.

NO to charter government

District One farmer Curtis Johnson visited Anacortes Tuesday morning to speak out against the charter government proposal voters will find on their ballots Tuesday, Nov. 4. The measure, which has been pushed by Mount Vernon Mayor Skye Richendrfer, would give a body of 21 “freeholders” responsibility for reviewing existing county government and possibly designing a […]
