At this time of year marine layer “fog” is a regular occurrence at Deception Pass. It was August 2005 when I pulled over on the Fidalgo Island side of the bridge for this image.

By Steve Berentson Many who travel to Anacortes are surprised to learn the popular seaside community is located on an island. Another surprise is that this island is served by five bridges. While there are five bridges, the spans are located at only three service points. There are two sets of “twins,” and a small, […]
Another cold, clear day in northwest Washington. No better place to celebrate the views than Deception Pass State Park (North Beach on right, Deception Pass Bridge on horizon).
A high profile bridge maintenance, repair and paint project at Deception Pass was completed early this year with a total price tag of $24 million, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The project, which took two-plus years, started with one contractor and ended with another. Completing the job was North Carolina-based Cekra, […]

For two-plus years, contractors for the state Department of Transportation worked on a bridge paint and maintenance project at Deception Pass. The work was complete early this year, and today WSDOT issued a public report with project elements. I had the opportunity Sunday to see the Deception Pass Bridge from a different angle … power boat heading west from Cornet Bay.
I had a brief opportunity Wednesday to photograph two members of a large team of contractors working beneath Deception Pass Bridge. One of them is from Texas, the other from Boston, Massachusetts. This months-long bridge repair and painting project is being completed by Cekra Construction of North Carolina under contract with the state Department of […]
