Had the place to myself this morning for awhile before a group of runners invaded. Lighthouse Point on south Fidalgo Island, overlooking Deception Pass.
This bald eagle’s white head against the South Fidalgo bluff wall caught my attention. He was perched on a snag over Canoe Pass, a snag that has since snapped in half. I haven’t seen an eagle in this location since.

After a brief winter hiatus, contractors are at work once again doing maintenance, repair and paint work on the bridges at Deception Pass. This is a photo of the west face of Canoe Pass, being “dressed up” for work that includes chipping and grinding of old paint.

With the North Beach parking lot at Deception Pass State Park closed for the season, many hikers opt to access this area from a trail descending from the North Whidbey bridge parking area. Views from the trail are well worth the energy expended to hike down … and up again.
