A trout on the line breaks with a splash to the surface of Heart Lake. This trout, taken during the annual Kids Fishing Derby, stayed on the line before moving quickly from net to boat.

Wide grins followed presentation of checks to top fishermen at Sunday afternoon’s culminating ceremony of the Anacortes Salmon Derby. Pictured here with the top two fish are $15,000 winner Mike Campion (left) of Bellingham and $5,000 second place winner Pat Barton of Anacortes. Campion’s fish weighed 18.96 pounds, followed closely by Barton’s at 18.74.

It’s not big enough for the top prize, but Seth Baumgarten of Kirkland caught a beauty Sunday morning as a competitor in the Anacortes Salmon Derby. This salmon weighed in at 24.38 pounds, which earned Baumgarten third place and $2,500. More results, visit www.anacortessalmonderby.com.
