Every fisherman moves to a new spot when the action is slow. This blue heron works the rocks on low tide at Rosario Beach, “flying” a few feet from time to time across the water. Fishing was good that morning!

Views of Canoe Pass and Deception Pass bridges from south bank of Fidalgo Island. Contractors are doing repair work and paint removal before finishing with a new coat of paint. This project is under the umbrella of the state Department of Transportation.

Water activity at Bowman Bay Friday included kayaks, canoes and sailboats, this one tied up at the floating dock. I also spotted a diver, and there were numerous people enjoying the beach.
“Viking boat” builder Jay Smith presided in November 2017 over the launch of yet another amazing vessel built in his Fidalgo Island shop. Master boatbuilder Smith apprenticed in Norway, worked in the Faroe Islands and Denmark, and studied under master boatbuilder Nils O. Ulset. The well-attended launch took place at Bowman Bay.
Summer sunshine draws people outdoors, as evidenced here on a recent visit to Bowman Bay on south Fidalgo Island. Anacortes Kayak Tours is operating again with restrictions, and area parks including Deception Pass State Park are open. Good to get out of the box!
