Flags flew at half staff across the nation today (Thursday, September 11) in memory of those who were killed in terrorist attacks in our nation seven years ago. These flags flew at Cap Sante Boat Haven, just beyond the Harbormaster’s Office. To the left is the sculpture “Annie Curtis,” dedicated earlier this year.
Flags flew in Anacortes Monday in recognition of Columbus Day. As usual, there was a flurry of morning activity as merchants settled in for a new week of business, shoppers stopped to pick up coffee, pastries, supplies or gifts … all in keeping with the philosophy: “Support Your Local Business.”
There were more flags than people in downtown Anacortes this morning. There were a few walkers, and the doors were open at gas stations and grocery stores. Other than that, most businesses gave their employees the day off. The sun was bright … a beautiful end to an amazing summer.
