Tuesday opened with a beautiful sunrise over Mount Baker, but those on the water encountered fog. This group of OARS rowers made their way north toward Cap Sante Boat Haven after one of their regular early morning adventures.
Canoe Pass Bridge is “lost” in the mist as fog sweeps through Deception Pass. Friday morning commuters encountered ice and fog. Seasonal demands include extra time in the morning to scrape and defrost, plus extraordinary precautions on back roads.
It’s really more fog than mist, but I liked the sound of “morning mist,” so here we are. Another gorgeous spring morning in paradise, as viewed looking north over downtown Anacortes and the Fidalgo Bay shoreline.
These are the days of soupy morning drives. It was clear on the south end of town this morning, but the fog grew thicker as we headed north into town. This photo was taken on the corner of 11th Street and Commercial, home of the Historic Downtown arch.
This was the scene shortly before noon Monday at Deception Pass, where fog rolled in, under and over the renowned span connecting Pass and Whidbey islands. A lone pedestrian stood at the railing at the time I took this photograph, but as it is August there was no shortage of highway travelers.
Even when the clouds hang low, the Fidalgo Island coastline is beautiful. This was the scene recently from the Portalis Homes neighborhood above the state ferry terminal at Ship Harbor.
It was a beautiful morning. I watched the fog rolling down the Guemes Channel and hopped in the car to get closer to the water. This photograph of a fishing boat was taken from the end of 5th Street at the base of Cap Sante. I encourage early morning adventures at this time of year. […]
It was a quiet morning when this photograph was taken of a lone fisherman on Heart Lake. Early morning fog was swirling on the surface of the lake, lifting slowly as this fisherman drifted away from the shore.
I waited quite a while this morning for the fog to lift at Deception Pass, but the bridge was still shrouded when I left. This was the view from Pass Island toward Whidbey. The fog makes for some beautiful photographs, but when it’s thick it can make the crossing a bit stressful for travelers, especially […]
Fog hung over the city all morning on Monday, finally clearing as the afternoon wore on. This photograph from the corner of Hillcrest and “V” Avenue shows Mt. Baker with refinery wharfs in the foreground.
It was all about fog this morning, especially near Fidalgo Island shorelines. This photograph was taken in the North Basin at Cap Sante Marina, looking northeast. The phrase “It’ll burn off” comes to mind as I recall the days of my youth. And by the way, it did. It was a beautiful afternoon.
It’s no fluke that Deception Pass ranks among the state’s top attractions. I have a longstanding love affair with the bridge, which is actually two spans linking Fidalgo and Whidbey islands. For many years I worked at the Whidbey News-Times in Oak Harbor, and during that stint I had the privilege to work on a […]
