Among friendly firefighters during the recent Fourth of July parade in Anacortes was Jeff Waldron of Tesoro Refinery. Waldron is an AHS graduate, active in the Anacortes Schools Foundation.

Reminiscent of days gone by, when “town criers” announced the news of the day, official Anacortes Town Crier Richard Riddell will join other dignitaries in celebration of America’s Independence Day on Sunday, July 4. Events include an 11 a.m. downtown parade, followed by festivities at historic Causland Park on 8th Street.

This “Support the Troops” parade entry drew enthusiastic response from a Fourth of July audience scattered along several blocks of Commercial Avenue in Anacortes Wednesday. Grand Marshal Hollie Brand has spearheaded a “packages to the troops” campaign for several years.

Grand Marshal of today’s 4th of July parade in downtown Anacortes was Hollie Brand, who showed her enthusiasm by waving to the crowd shortly after the 11 a.m. cannon blast that “launched” the event.
