Sun on the water drew me to the 12th Street bluff overlooking Lovric’s Sea-Craft, Inc. on the Guemes Channel.
Progress continues on this stretch of trail running parallel to the Guemes Channel, funded by developers of the San Juan Passage subdivision located above the state ferry terminal at Ship Harbor in Anacortes.
Visit this interpretive display, located on 5th Street about a half-block from the Guemes Ferry terminal. This community was once renowned as the salmon canning capital of the world.
There wasn’t enough wind to sail into town, so this sailboat motored down the Guemes Channel Tuesday afternoon. This photograph was taken near the intersection of 5th Street and “K” Avenue.
The county-owned Guemes Ferry tracks across the channel as state ferries are visible in the background. This photo was taken from the pilot house deck of the Grant Candies.
Traffic can be heavy on the Guemes Channel at this time of year. Such was the case Wednesday afternoon when vessels on the move included the “Deception Pass,” moving slowly as it towed the “Peggy J” up the channel. Also involved was a push boat. I’m speculating about the vessels’ destination.
Weekend sun seems to be a luxury these days. This boater took advantage of Saturday sunshine and breeze to hoist sails and enjoy a northwest Washington adventure. That’s Guemes Island in the background.

I took this photo of the “Gallant Lady” from Curtis Wharf Wednesday afternoon while photographing a stage crew at the site of the 4th Annual Anacortes Jazz Festival, which runs August 31 to September 3. See www.anacortes.org for lineup and ticket prices, or call […]
A life ring from the Guemes ferry, owned and operated by Skagit County. Here’s an idea for a great spring outing: leave your car at the Guemes ferry parking area, walk aboard and then take the short stroll to the Anderson Store/restaurant on the Guemes shore, where you can enjoy a great meal. Enjoy the […]
I heard rave reviews from a knowledgeable source today on my ride to and from Guemes Island. The report was that propulsion repairs made last week at Dakota Creek resulted in a much smoother ride. Island folks are just glad to have their ferry back.
Actually, the view’s there now, but it will be awhile before this new residential development is ready for occupants. The site is located at the end of 17th Street above Oakes Avenue, with a sweeping view of the Guemes Channel and neighboring islands. The blue building in the center on water’s edge is located at […]
Retired Anacortes Museum Director Garry Cline was among a handful of people who gathered Thursday morning to acknowledge completion of an interpretive project at the Guemes Island Ferry parking area. The location on 6th Street is the one-time home of Apex Cannery. Cline and others at the museum played a key role in assisting Skagit […]
