Shirtsleeves shift

A brick wall on the perimeter of the Island Hospital expansion project went up Wednesday morning under blue skies and warm temperatures. I always enjoy watching someone engaged in the ancient art of bricklaying.

Hospital grows

The “scenery” changes on a daily basis now on the construction site at Island Hospital, as an expansion brings the existing building east toward Commercial Avenue. Construction crews at Island Hospital enjoy a break in the weather as progress continues on the public facility’s expansion. Crews to date have seen it all … from rain to hail to snow. Here comes the sun!

Hospital expansion

Heavy equipment crews are hard at work on a project site between Commercial Avenue and Island Hospital. The $7.3 million construction project includes a new facility for physical therapy, cancer care and dialysis services. Project manager is Marc Estvold.

A team from Shell Puget Sound Refinery works diligently, decorating a Christmas tree as part of Island Hospital Foundation’s annual Celebration of Trees at the Port of Anacortes Transit Shed Event Center. Kiket now a park

Kiket Island (center) is now part of Deception Pass State Park. Joint ownership of Kiket Island was made official in June with a signed agreement by the state Parks and Recreation Commission and the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community.
