Bald eagle at West Beach, Deception Pass State Park, in tree located between saltwater beach and freshwater lake.
This winding road leads to and from the West Beach area of Deception Pass State Park. Running parallel to the road along the shore of Cranberry Lake is a pedestrian path just inches from water’s edge.
I’m guessing this duck thought I came bearing food, because she was very cooperative for the first minute of our encounter. Then, no food … paddle away.
Cars stacked up in the parking lot at Pass Lake Sunday, but there was plenty of room on the water for those drawn to the prospect of fishing in the sunshine. In nearby Anacortes, boat lovers gathered at Cap Sante Boat Haven for the third and final day of the 2011 Spring Boat Show.
The often bustling Heart Lake shoreline was quiet Monday, affording this fisherman the opportunity to spend a relaxing afternoon with few “neighbors” to distract him.
Hmmm. I don’t know details, but this sign just went up on Highway 20 (Fidalgo side of Deception Pass) declaring “Whidbey Scenic Isle Way.” Will talk to my ranger friends at Deception Pass State Park.
Serene fall afternoon on Fidalgo Island’s Heart Lake.
Ducks paddle in formation on a sunny afternoon at Heart Lake.
I think these fly fishermen were just sharing a brief visit before getting back to business Sunday at Pass Lake. After a few minutes together, one paddled away in search of “the catch.”
Sunday, Day II of the new freshwater fishing season, was a busy one, as evidenced by this scene at Heart Lake in Anacortes. Lake Erie was busy, too, as was Pass Lake. Pass is a fly-fishing lake, no boat motors.
I deviated from my usual route this morning and was rewarded with beautiful views along the shore of Heart Lake. This photo was taken from road’s edge looking back toward the Mt. Erie turnoff.
I treated myself to a hike on Morrison Trail Thursday, dropping down from the hills to the shoreline of Little Cranberry Lake. This “shapely” tree is familiar to hikers on Trail 103 in the city forestlands.
