Time and weather continue to take their toll on this Lake Campbell barn. It looks like this farm building, situated near the base of Mt. Erie, will suffer the same fate that a neighboring barn at the other end of the road did about 20 years ago.
I took the scenic route back to Anacortes Saturday morning from Mount Vernon, encountering this flock of Trumpeter swans on Beaver Marsh Road. That’s Mt. Erie in the distance.
Volunteers at Mt. Erie Volunteer Fire Department (Fire District 11) honor a tradition that dates back to the days of horse-drawn steam engines, pushing a new piece of equipment into the fire hall Monday night. The used aid car, donated to the department by Shell Puget Sound Refinery, would have cost district taxpayers more than […]
I deviated from my usual route this morning and was rewarded with beautiful views along the shore of Heart Lake. This photo was taken from road’s edge looking back toward the Mt. Erie turnoff.
Mt. Erie, as viewed from the water shortly after passing through Deception Pass.
An aerial view of our fair city, looking north. Mt. Erie Elementary School is in the foreground, with Guemes Island near the top of the frame.
Mt. Erie stands bathed in early evening sun Tuesday, the waters of Lake Erie shimmering in the foreground.

Here you will find Joyce Stewart, Michael Culbertson, Carol Hjort, Judy Lesage, James Driftmeir; Cathleen Swapp, Jack Fader, Carol Dittes, Timmy Hinds, Delbert Freelund, Robert Titterness, Rosemary Harness. Our trip to the top of Mt. Erie Friday afternoon was rewarded with this incredible vista looking across Lake Campbell toward North Whidbey Island. I had the privilege of accompanying Dad and Aunt Delores from North Dakota on this little adventure. Love that sun!
It was a bonus trip. It’s too small and hazy to see in this image, but Mt. Rainier (far right) was visible from Mt. Erie Monday evening from this angle overlooking Lake Campbell, south Fidalgo and environs. On the other side of the mountain, Mt. Baker was lighted by the setting sun.
I was on my way down from the top of Mt. Erie when I spotted two figures in the road. I stopped, then recognized the figures as owls. They split to either side of the road when I got out of the car, but one of the owls was less intimidated than the other, opting […]
I photographed this barn, one of my favorites since I lived on Lake Campbell years ago, on a Sunday afternoon visit to friend Irene’s house. It was a relaxing trip sparked by an invitation to “harvest” the last of the season’s fruit from a Wealthy apple tree. By day’s end I was fine-dining on a […]
