A crew examines one of two massive propellers on the tugboat “Valor” at Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) in October 2012.
Afternoon sunlight washed over this tugboat under construction at Dakota Creek Industries. Giant props appear to be gold.
Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) shipyard is a busy place these days. A number of crews are doing maintenance work on vessels including a state ferry. Other crews work on vessel construction. Pictured here is a Crowley tug, bright prop blade shining under wet Northwest conditions. DCI is the Port of Anacortes’ largest tenant.
State vessel “Sealth” left Anacortes last week and the “Elwha” slipped in right after her. Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) has the state ferry in drydock at the north end of Commercial Avenue. Work Monday afternoon included a cleaning of a giant Elwha propeller.
Work continues on the state ferry “Sealth,” currently in drydock on the Guemes Channel. Earlier this week crews installed this new propeller shaft on the vessel, visible from the south end of Commercial Avenue. Dakota Creek Industries is contracted for maintenance and repair work on the ferry.
The reflection of the morning sun on this huge propeller caught my attention Saturday on a cruise around town. The giant brushed metal propeller is “planted” in front of Dakota Creek offices on 4th Street.
