Sailboats on the water: 2006

Fidalgo Bay serves routinely as the playground and “field of competition” for local sailboat races. Often Mt. Baker offers a snow-capped backdrop. This photo was taken in 2006. Look for sails on the bay today and tomorrow.

Races draw crowd

Hundreds turned out under sunny Northwest skies to watch the 2009 Work Boat Races at Pier 1 on the Guemes Channel. The Port of Anacortes played a key role in the launch of this waterfront event, which capitalized on a downtown crowd drawn to Shipwreck Day.

Race watching

I’m not saying there has never been a couple engaged in watching “submarine races” from Cap Sante, but this particular couple spent a relaxing part of Wednesday evening watching sailboat races in Fidalgo Bay. Boats and crews are from the Anacortes Yacht Club.
