Gallery facelift

Chris and Katherine Sherman recently put finishing touches on a beautiful renovation project at the Scott Milo Gallery, 420 Commercial Avenue.

Gallery renovation

Renovation work that began last spring continues in earnest at the Scott Milo Gallery, 420 Commercial Avenue. The gallery, owned by Chris and Kathy Sherman, is a popular stop among art lovers in the region. The gallery remains open during the project, estimated to take three weeks.

Gutting the New Wilson

Crews are hard at work on the New Wilson Hotel building in downtown Anacortes. Debris is being dropped down a chute from upper levels as renovation work including the roof is under way. The building will ultimately be converted to apartments operating under the umbrella of the Anacortes Housing Authority.

Changes at the Junction

Renovation work is under way on the historic Sheet Stores Junction building on 5th Street next door to the PACE union headquarters. A sign above the door also reads: Workshops. This was the site of my son’s graduation photo. He posed against a plywood door panel. Corrugated siding is rusty from rain and sea air.

‘Seat-lift’ at Causland

Working around seasonal activities including weekend weddings, stoneworkers Bryan Elliott (right) and Matt Harding are replacing decrepit bench stones at Causland Memorial Park with a solid aggregrate.
